What is Peranakan?

Since MonsterTie™ has Asian influences, we naturally had to bring one of our most treasured forms of culture & art into the products that we sell. Peranakan culture was cultivated by Chinese immigrants settling with native Malays and Indonesians within South-East Asia. This harmonious blend of cultures resulted in a formation of the Peranakan Culture itself. 

Peranakan culture is largely seen within South-East Asia, especially if you have ever sat on a Singapore Airlines Flight, where their air stewardess’s don a Peranakan inspired outfit. However, we at MonsterTie™ often rarely see Peranakan being represented outside of women's clothing. We find it a shame that Peranakan vibrant colours and bold designs typically exist only within women's wear and are almost non-existent in men's wear. Therefore, we partnered with Singaporean designer, MarzThomson, and Azthom to enable men to explore the fine culture of Peranakan designs.
